Why I moved my site from WordPress to Squarespace.
I used to use WordPress (the self-hosted version) for this site. What I liked the most about WordPress is that it’s open source. However, being open source software is also a curse. It’s why I switched from WordPress to Squarespace, despite the high costs.
Plugins
I had a lot of plugins installed on my WordPress installation. A LOT of plugins. I had over 30 plugins. It definitely affected how the site performed, even with caching. Sometimes the site wouldn’t load at all. Even worse, I wouldn’t be able to log in to the admin panel. It would time out, just as I tried to log in.
Spam
I was hit with so much spam on my WordPress installation, on both blog comments and the contact form. I had antispam plugins installed, but they didn’t stop it. I eventually turned off comments and deleted the contact form, because the spam was overwhelming and I simply don’t have that kind of time or energy to go through it all.
Security
Hackers would try to brute force their way into the admin panel. Thankfully, they never got in, but it wreaked havoc on my resources. I had it set up so that only my IP address could access the admin panel, but for some reason, that caused problems with some of the plugins I had installed.
I needed to switch to something else that would cause fewer headaches. After a lot of research, I decided to go with Squarespace. The difference is just like night and day! I have not had one single spam comment or message since I switched to Squarespace. I don’t need all of those plugins that I had before, since the features I need are built right into Squarespace. Squarespace takes care of security, so I don’t have to worry about the brute force attacks anymore.
There is only one negative aspect about Squarespace: the price. It is very expensive. However, I’m willing to pay the extra money to avoid dealing with the issues I had on WordPress.
I know Squarespace isn’t for everyone. But it’s definitely for me!
