Why is taking me so long to finish Us Against Them?
Us Against Them has consumed my life since November 2016. That’s a super long time, I know.
But the end is finally coming. I am determined to get this final edit finished by December 2025. I need to get this book finished and over with so that I can move on to my (many) other writing projects.
It spans a lot of genres. It’s dystopia. It’s horror. It’s political thriller. It’s historical fiction. It might even be some more genres that I can’t think of at the moment. I think that once you start exploring multiple genres, it tends to slow things down because you want to ensure that everything follows logically. There is a lot of stuff going on in this novel.
For those of you who know my background, you know that I survived rape, abuse, and torture. I am taking my experiences as a survivor and using them in the novel. Sometimes, the memories of what happened to me triggered my PTSD. I had to take breaks when that happened.
There was also a period when I lost several family members in a short time frame. That was very difficult to deal with, and I just couldn’t seem to write.
I also experienced a very bad mental breakdown (it was the worst one ever, actually), and I was unable to write for nearly a year.
There’s been a lot of tragedy with writing Us Against Them. That made the years add up.
But, I’m finally at the point where I’m at the FINAL EDITING stage! The finish line is right there! I just have to make one final push, and my long-overdue debut novel will FINALLY be published!
